Lutz Bachmann, Leader of Germany’s Anti-islam Group Steps Down over Hitler Selfie!
Lutz Bachmann, the leader of Germany’s anti-islam advocate recently shared a selfie of himself dressed like Adolf Hitler via Facebook, but was later withdrawn due to public outrage. The group which is known with the local acronym PEGIDA that translates in English to Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West, had for years been campaigning against the immigrants and Muslim in Germany and had been able to garner a support base within the country.
However, his recent satirical picture backfired and he had to resign from the leadership of PEGIDA after a newspaper published months-old selfie of him posing as Adolf Hitler, according to CNN. Germany is still sensitive to anything that is linked to the former dictator, Hitler and the Nazi party.
He has since removed the Hitler photo on Facebook, which was replaced with Charlie Chaplin with the excuse that it was all meant to be a joke. “I apologize to everybody who has felt attacked by my online postings. They were comments made without serious reflection, which I would no longer express today. I am sorry that I thereby damaged the interests of our movement, and draw the appropriate conclusion,” he said.
