Asia Cup 2015: Host Nation ‘Australia’ Emerges as Champion!
The Asia Cup final ended over the weekend, with the host nation, Australia defeating South Korea 2 – 1 to clinch the championship for the Asian continent. This may come as a surprise to some sport commentators and fans, because South Korea is a football powerhouse for Asia with the other powerhouse being Japan.
This is the first time Australia will be emerging as the Champion of the Asia Cup. The home crowd that packed the Olympic Stadium in Sydney to the fullest, cheering their home team must have done a lot to boost the spirits of their players. It was reported by The Advertiser, that the home fans estimated to be about 76,385 chanting “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi” throughout the game overwhelmingly sidelining the South Korean fans at the stadium.
The first goal was by Massimo Luongo from Totenham Hotspur and was equalized by Son Heung Min of South Korea. However, James Troisi sealed the victory at the final moment with the second goal.
