Video: To Mark 300 days since Nigerian Chibok Girls were abducted, Nobel Peace Laureate Malala Yousafzai urges the World to remember them!

The Nobel Peace Prize winner for peace last year, Malala Yousafzai urges the world to remember the 276 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram last year, Time reports.

It’s been 300 days since the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls which happened in April last year, but their fate is still undetermined. This tragic event is much overshadowed by other turn of events that garnered international headlines.

“Nigerian leaders and the international community can and must do much more to resolve this crisis and change their weak response to date,” Malala said in a statement marking 300 days since the Chibok schoolgirls were captured, as reported by Times. “If these girls were the children of politically or financially powerful parents, much more would be done to free them. But they come from an impoverished area of northeast Nigeria and sadly little has changed since they were kidnapped.”

The Nobel Peace Laureate was a victim of violence against girls seeking education herself where she was shot by the Talibans in Pakistan for campaigning for education rights for girls. Her painful treatment and recovery in a London hospital generated much international publicity and overwhelming sympathy, leading to her being awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace last year.
